Your Rhinelander Winter Recreation Guide
Check out our snow report and head north! Winter is a great time to visit Rhinelander, and there are plenty of places to get outdoors and get away from the crowds, whether you’re skiing, snowshoeing or sledding. Here are some spots you shouldn’t miss.
Skiing
Glide through the Northwoods at some of Rhinelander’s best-secluded cross-country skiing spots. The Cassian County Two-Way Trail winds for 15 miles through beautiful Northwoods scenery and past three tree-lined lakes. The CAVOC Trails provide a more challenging trek through five miles of forests. The Northwoods Ski Trail travels for eight miles along expertly groomed loops at Northwood Golf Club outside of Rhinelander. The Enterprise County Trail offers great wildlife viewing opportunities south of Rhinelander, and the Nose Lake Trail offers 5- and 9-mile loops of beginner to intermediate terrain.
Downhill skiers can find fun runs at Camp 10 Ski Area outside of Rhinelander.
Snowshoeing
Get away from it all with a tromp through the snow. The Rhinelander Area is home to lots of great snowshoe trails where you can get some winter activity while admiring beautiful Northwoods scenery. The Washburn Lake Trail lets snowshoers stomp through hilly terrain near Perch Lake northwest of Rhinelander, the short Almon Park Trail (2.25 miles) is great for beginners and offers wonderful views of Buck Lake. Or, you can hit up the CAVOC Trails or the Enterprise Trail, which also welcome cross-country skiers.
Sledding
Hodag Country is home to a couple of great sledding hills. In downtown Rhinelander, Sarocka Field is home to a steep sledding hill that’s perfect for thrill-seekers; the park is located two blocks to the east of the Oneida County Courthouse. Grab your tubes and sleds and head to Northwood Golf Club on Highway 8 just outside of Rhinelander—there’s a sledding hill next to the course’s driving range that’s fun for all ages.
Ice skating
An outdoor ice rink can be found at Pioneer Park next to the baseball diamonds. If you’re looking to skate indoors, the Rhinelander Ice Arena offers open skate times; check their website for more details.
Ice fishing
