Paddlers looking for a quieter stretch of river to paddle in Rhinelander can put their canoe or kayak in at the River Bend Road Bridge on the Pelican River and paddle into the Wisconsin River just south of downtown Rhinelander. Canoers and kayakers will pass the Holmboe Conifer Forest State Natural Area and skirt the southern edge of Rhinelander, taking in wonderful Northwoods scenery along the way. A boat takeout can be found at at the Pelican Rapids Boat Launch on Boyce Drive. More advanced paddlers looking for rapids and a longer trip can put in on the North Branch of the Pelican River at the Dam on Dam Road instead.
