Ideas for a Summer Weekend Getaway to Rhinelander

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing weekend on a lake or a biking adventure through the woods, you’re bound to find endless options for summer fun in Rhinelander. Here are a few recommendations for a quick summer weekend trip to the Northwoods.

Where to Stay

Choose from a selection of great hotels, resorts, cabins, and campgrounds in the Rhinelander Area.

If you’re looking for a cozy Northwoods cabin on a lake, check out Holiday Acres Resort or Brekke’s Fireside Resort.

AmericInn and Quality Inn are both close to the downtown area and offer a variety of amenities.

If you enjoy camping, check out West Bay Camping Resort. Located on Lake Thompson, they have cabins and campsites, including some with full hookups.

Day #1

Start the day off with breakfast and coffee at Tilly’s. They serve organic, fresh, and local food, along with a variety of specialty coffee drinks.

Next, go on a paddling adventure! Popular paddling locations to explore include the Pelican River, Lake George, and Boom Lake.

If you are in need of a kayak, Mel’s Trading Post has rental options including kayaks and stand-up paddle boards.

If you’d rather spend the day on a boat, Shoeder’s RV & Marine offers pontoon and boat rentals.

Visit Rhinelander Brewing Company downtown for a beer tasting and a tour of the brewery. (Be sure to call ahead to reserve a tour!) The Brewery carries an assortment of local beers on tap, as well as gifts and souvenirs.

For dinner we recommend Fireside Supper Club, a cozy, cabin-like traditional supper club located on Townline Lake. The diverse menu options include fish fry, prime rib, steaks, seafood, and more. (Reservations are strongly recommended.)

Day #2

Go for a nature walk through the Holmboe Nature Preserve or spend the morning at Almon County Park. Holmboe Nature Preserve is home to a beautiful old-growth forest, with a short trail less than a mile long.

Almon County Park has a disc golf course, great walking trails and a small swimming beach area. This is the perfect place for a picnic!

Speaking of lunch, dine-in or grab a meal to-go from CT’s Deli. They offer amazing sandwiches, paninis, soups, salads, and more.

After lunch, be sure to make a stop at The Hodag Store to pick up a hodag/Rhinelander souvenir!

Finish the day with a sweet treat at Briq’s. They have specialty shakes, sundaes, and soft serve ice cream with outdoor seating. Perfect for a hot summer day!
