The Rhinelander Area is filled with great places to canoe and kayak. Here’s a look at a few of our favorites in our neck of the Northwoods.
Boom Lake
Located in the heart of Rhinelander, Boom Lake is a flowage on the Wisconsin River. It’s ideally located for a paddling adventure. Public access is available at a boat launch in Hodag Park.
Pelican River
Paddlers looking for quiet Northwoods waters can explore the Pelican River, which shoots off from the Wisconsin River south of downtown Rhinelander and flows on a southeasterly path to Pelican Lake. Put in at the Pelican Rapids Landing on Boyce Drive south of Kemp Street.
Wisconsin River
The iconic Wisconsin River flows directly through Rhinelander, providing ample opportunity for canoeing and kayaking. A good place to put in is at the Rainbow Flowage near Lake Tomahawk north of Rhinelander.
Willow Flowage
Looking for a wild paddle? Head to the Willow Flowage. Located west of Rhinelander in an undeveloped tract of forest, the Willow Flowage is a true wilderness destination that’s comparable to the Boundary Waters. Public access is available at the Willow Flowage Dam, Cedar Falls campground, and McCord Road.
