Wisconsin River

Wisconsin River, Rhinelander

The Wisconsin River is the backbone of the state, and the river flows directly through Rhinelander, providing ample opportunity for canoeing and kayaking. A good place to put in is at the Rainbow Flowage near Lake Tomahawk north of Rhinelander. From there, paddlers can head south to Bridge Road near McNaughton; more adventurous folks can travel all the way to the Rhinelander Flowage or Boom Lake in Rhinelander. The river is dam-controlled, so water levels remain constant throughout the year. The Wisconsin River is also a popular fishing destination.
