5 Can’t-miss Fall Color Drives

Fall is here, and it’s the perfect time to hit the road for a fabulous fall color tour. Here are five routes in the Rhinelander Area where you’ll find your fill of reds, yellows and oranges.

Route #1 (1 hr)

About 43 miles through the areas South and East of Rhinelander

Start at the Chamber. Turn left out of the parking lot. Take a left onto Kemp St. Take a right onto Oneida St. Stay on Oneida St. which turns into County Highway G. Stay on County Highway G. Turn Left onto Highway 45 and follow it into Monico. Turn left onto Highway 8 and stay on Highway 8 until you reach Rhinelander.

Route #2 (35 min)

About 24 miles through the area to the North of Rhinelander

Start at the Chamber. Turn right out of the parking lot. Follow Sutliff Ave. until Davenport St. Turn right onto Davenport St. Take a left onto Stevens St. Follow Stevens Street to Dwight St., which turns into Highway W, and take a left. Turn left onto River Rd. Follow River Rd. for about 9 miles. Turn left on Bridge Rd. Follow Bridge Rd. until Highway 47. Turn left onto Highway 47 and travel south back to Rhinelander.

Route #3 (1 hr)

About 48 miles through the areas North and East of Rhinelander

Start at the Chamber. Turn right onto Sutliff Ave. Turn right onto Davenport St. Turn left onto Stevens St. Turn left onto Highway 17, continue following Highway 17 north. Turn right onto County Highway A, then turn right onto Superior St. Follow Superior St., which turns into Highway 45. Turn right onto County Highway C, headed west. Continue onto Timber Dr. back into Rhinelander.

Route #4 (30 min)

About 16 miles South of Rhinelander, near the Wisconsin River

Start at the Chamber. Turn left onto Sutliff Ave. Turn right onto Kemp St. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Highway 8 W. Turn left onto S River Rd. Turn left onto Hat Rapids Rd. Continue straight, and cross Highway 17. (Hat Rapids Rd. turns into Lassig Rd.) Continue straight on Lassig Rd for about 4 miles. Turn left onto Highway G and travel back into Rhinelander.

Route #5 (25 min)

About 12 miles East of Rhinelander, around Lake George

Start at the Chamber. Turn left onto Sutliff Ave. Turn left onto Kemp St. At the second stop light, turn left onto Oneida Ave. At the next light, turn right onto Lincoln St. Continue straight on Lincoln St. and cross Highway 17. (Lincoln St. then turns into County Highway P.) Turn left onto N Faust Lake Rd., and then immediately turn right onto S Shore Dr. Continue straight on S Shore Dr. until it ends, and turn right onto N Lake George Rd. Take a left onto E Lake George Rd. Turn right onto County Highway P back into Rhinelander.
