Rhinelander snowmobile guide

Hodag Country is the ideal base for a Northwoods snowmobile adventure. There are more than 1,000 miles of trails in Oneida County, and Rhinelander sits at the heart of it all. You’ll discover restaurants and lodging properties with easy access to the trails, and our local snowmobile club, the Hodag Sno-Trails, works hard to keep our trails in top condition. Here are some tips for exploring the trails around Rhinelander.

Launching your adventure

Here’s a map to the trails around Rhinelander.

Our trail systems connect Rhinelander with trails that extend across the state and beyond. In town, a trail on Boom Lake and the Wisconsin River runs into the heart of Rhinelander. Use caution when riding on the ice, and don’t cross water until trails are marked as open! You can also pick up trails on Rhinelander’s west side, off Kemp Street, and on the east side of town north of Lincoln Street. Find restaurants near the trails here.

Loops from town

There are plenty of riding options around Rhinelander that won’t have you retracing your tracks. To the west of town, a nice loop will take you through the Harshaw and McNaughton areas. To the north and east, you’ll find several looped options of varying length that will take you through Sugar Camp and beyond.

Adventures north

There’s a wild world to be explored on the trails that head north of Rhinelander. The beautiful Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest is a short ride north of Rhinelander. The 225,000-acre forest has more than 400 miles of snowmobile trails.

Connections south

Routes to the south of Rhinelander will take you through some additional scenic riding. Our trails connect to expansive systems in Lincoln and Langlade counties, so its possible to do longer-haul loops that will connect you back to Oneida County’s snowmobile trails.
