Biking Rhinelander: Trails, Rentals and Routes for Every Rider

Fall is just around the corner, and now is the perfect time to take advantage of Rhinelander’s fresh air, scenic views, and miles of bikeable terrain. Whether you’re a mountain biker, road cyclist, or just looking for a relaxing ride with the family, Rhinelander offers plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors before the snow flies.

Trails for Every Skill Level

The Rhinelander area is home to a variety of biking trails that showcase the area’s natural beauty—from towering pine forests and sparkling lakes to winding rivers and vibrant small-town streets.

Bearskin State Trail

One of the most popular routes is the Bearskin State Trail, an 18-mile crushed granite path that stretches from downtown Minocqua to just south of Heafford Junction. While not exactly within Rhinelander, the trail is a short drive from town and offers a peaceful ride through scenic forests and wildlife-filled stretches. It’s a flat, level trail that’s perfect for casual riders and families with kids. (A WI DNR trail pass is required for ages 16+ for biking.)

Washburn Lake Silent Sports Trails

Looking for something a little more adventurous? The Washburn Lake Silent Sports Trails, located just west of Rhinelander on Oneida County Forest land, feature hilly terrain with a network of loops and single-track routes ideal for mountain biking. These trails wind through beautiful hardwood and pine forests and offer a mix of intermediate to advanced terrain. The area is open year-round and open for winter recreation too. (A county trail pass is required for ages 18+.)

Hodag Park

For those looking to stay closer to town, Hodag Park offers a short, paved, gentle lakeside path that’s great for casual riders and families. The park also connects to city streets making it easy to explore town beyond the park. (No pass required.)

A bike ride is the perfect way to experience Downtown Rhinelander. Park your bike outside a local café, browse boutiques and one-of-a-kind shops, or grab a bite at one of the many local restaurants. Pick up a Rhinelander city map at the Chamber of Commerce/Visitor Center!
