Where to eat in Rhinelander
Are you as hungry as a Hodag? (That’s pretty hard to do, to be honest.) Still, when you’re packing for your next Rhinelander getaway, be sure to bring your appetite. Here’s a look at just a few of the mouth-watering restaurants you can discover in the Rhinelander Area.
Downtown Rhinelander is home to friendly shops, restaurants, and other businesses. If you’re hungry or need to pick up meats, cheeses, oils or other deli items, stop by CT’s Deli on Brown Street. There you’ll find hot and cold sandwiches (including Chef Tom’s famous beef brisket), paninis, salads and more.
One of the newer restaurants in Rhinelander, Historic Davenport House, sits just steps away from the historic Oneida County Courthouse in downtown Rhinelander. The restaurant is open for lunch Tuesday through Friday, dinner Wednesday through Saturday and brunch on Sundays. Be sure to visit often, as menu items change frequently.
A classic Northwoods supper club if ever there was one, Swearingen’s Al-Gen Dinner Club on Faust Lake Road has welcomed visitors to its homey, log-cabin environs for decades. Whether you’re there for a Friday fish fry or traditional Old Fashioned in the cozy cocktail lounge, a visit to the Al-Gen is a must when you’re in Hodag Country. (The Al-Gen was even featured in the New York Times!)
Another popular spot is the Fireside Supper Club, which overlooks Town Line Lake on Highway K. The Fireside has been family-owned and operated since 1989, and visitors will find iconic supper club cuisine on the menu, including a Friday fish fry, prime rib, steaks, seafood and more.
Looking for more woods in your Northwoods? Head north of Rhinelander to Backwaters Bar & Grill, a scenic stop located on the northern end of the Boom Lake chain. This classic Oneida County bar and grill has delicious food, a good tap beer selection and is a popular stop for boaters (Backwaters has docks on the Wisconsin River) and snowmobilers (the bar has easy access to local snowmobiling trails).
Located on Highway 8 southeast of Rhinelander, Rocky’s Roadhouse sits on the shores of Lake George and is a popular stop for its burgers and fish (especially the Friday night fish fry). Don’t miss this gem when you’re visiting Hodag Country.
