5 No-cost Things to Do in Rhinelander This Summer

Explore Rhinelander without spending a dime! Whether you’re looking for an activity to pass some time or planning your getaway on a budget, there’s lots of low-cost activities to do in Rhinelander this summer.

1. Visit Pioneer Park Historical Complex

Learn about the rich history of the Northwoods at Pioneer Park Historical Complex. Explore several historical buildings such as the old schoolhouse and CCC Museum, learn about the Soo Line Depot, check out the Logging Museum, and more! Don’t miss the Hodag exhibit, featuring the largest, oldest collection of Hodag re-creations in the world! There is no fee to visit the Historical Complex, but donations are appreciated to support its operation for many years to come.

2. Listen to live music at the Hodag Park Amphitheater

Throughout the summer, you can find live music at the amphitheater at Hodag Park, presented by NRG Media. Bring a lawn chair or listen by boat on Boom Lake! Bring an appetite and enjoy delicious food and beverages from local food trucks and vendors. 3. Explore Holmboe Conifer Forest

Take a walk through the towering trees of this old-growth forest, located right in town off of Boyce Drive. Holmboe features about 1 mile of looping trails, perfect for a quick summer hike. Enjoy views of the Pelican River and several picturesque boardwalks through the wetlands on this scenic trail.

4. Watch a water ski show at Hodag Park

Each summer since 1971, the Hodag Water Shows team puts on impressive water ski shows showcasing the talents of local skiers of all ages. You can catch shows Sunday evenings at 7pm at Hodag Park, and additionally most Wednesday evenings at 7pm in July on the shores of Boom Lake. Enjoy a bite to eat from the concession stand while you’re there too. Visit their website for the full schedule.

5. View an art exhibit at ArtStart

Visit Rhinelander’s arts and cultural center downtown! Throughout the year, ArtStart holds activities, events, galleries, and more for all ages. Stop by to check out their latest art gallery or check the schedule to attend an upcoming music event. If you’re visiting in September, you won’t want to miss Project North, a music, art, and sustainability festival.
