Rhinelander is home to a wide range of restaurants and eateries, from pizza places to cozy supper clubs to coffee shops. Here are some local favorites.

Coffee shop: Northern Grounds Coffeehouse
Start your day off right—or find your afternoon pick-me-up—at this coffee shop on Lincoln Street in Rhinelander. Order classic drip coffee or specialty LOTUS Energy Fusion drinks like The Hodag (red and blue lotus with kiwi, topped with whipped cream) or the Wisco Sunrise (red lotus with mango, passion fruit and piña colada.) And be sure to pick up something from Northern Grounds’ cookie case, which boasts flavors including chocolate-covered strawberry, lemon cheesecake and more.

Deli & sandwiches: CT’s Deli

This family-owned deli, restaurant and bar in downtown Rhinelander is a local favorite for its tasty hot and cold sandwiches, paninis, soups and salads. The “CT” in the restaurant’s name is Chef Tom, who has worked in Northwoods restaurants for more than 20 years and serves up the deli’s delicious dishes from the restaurant’s open kitchen. (And don’t miss out on his specialty—smoked brisket and pork butt that’s used in CT’s hot sandwiches.) Patrons can also pick up fresh meats and cheeses, salads, balsamic vinegars and oils to make their own deli creations.

Bar & grill: Cross Country Bar & Grill

Situated on Highway 17 between Rhinelander and Eagle River, Cross Country Bar & Grill is a great place to go to watch a game or the next big sporting event—it’s got 14 big-screen LCD TVs and a great selection of tap and bottled beer, plus it’s a popular spot for a bloody mary. On the menu, you‘ll find great options like the French Onion Burger, fish tacos, specialty pizzas and, of course, a Friday night fish fry.

Supper club: Swearingen’s Al-Gen Dinner Club

Supper club fans, rejoice: You’ll find an iconic example of this Wisconsin institution just outside of Rhinelander. Head out of the city on Highway P and turn north on Faust Lake Road to reach the Al-Gen Dinner Club, an authentic log-cabin restaurant built in the 1930s. Today, the Al-Gen is a favorite among locals and visitors alike for its authentic atmosphere and hearty offerings like BBQ ribs, steaks and seafood, as well as pastas and sandwiches. Don’t miss daily specials like fried walleye, pork chops, roast duck and the Northwoods classic—a Friday fish fry.

Waterfront dining: Pine Harbor Beach Bar & Grill

There are few things better than enjoying dinner with a side of beautiful Northwoods scenery, and Rhinelander is home to some great waterfront spots. One local favorite is Pine Harbor Beach Bar & Grill, which sits on the banks of the Wisconsin River just north of downtown. Here, you’ll find classics like Friday night fish fry, homemade pizzas, burgers and more. Drive up or park your boat onshore and enjoy a great meal.

Pizza: Pizza Ranch

Looking for a specialty slice? Head to Pizza Ranch on Eisenhower Street in Rhinelander (or place an order for carryout or delivery) to enjoy classic pizzas or unique flavors like Macaroni & Cheese or the Tuscan Roma. You can also create your own pie—select from thin crust, original, skillet, stuffed and gluten-free—or enjoy a 2- to 4-piece chicken dinner or 8- to 20-piece chicken box.

Candy & sweets: Fun Factory Sweet Shoppe

Take a step into the past at this old-fashioned candy store in the heart of Rhinelander. Tempt your sweet tooth with delicious, fresh small-batch fudge, truffles, popcorn, bulk candy, gifts and more. But we’re in Hodag Country after all, so shoppers will also find chocolate Hodags, Rhinelander Beer corn (in cheese and caramel varieties), “Hodag poop” (don’t worry, it’s just mint malted milk balls), Hodag gifts and more.
