Miles of trails await ATV aficionados

If your idea of a relaxing vacation includes a heart-pumping ride on some of most scenic trails in the Northwoods, load up your four-wheeler and head to the Rhinelander Area.

Just a short drive from the Rhinelander Area, riders will find the Enterprise Trail System, which includes 10 miles of trails (as well some shorter road routes) in the Oneida County Forest and connects to systems in Lincoln County and Langlade County to the south.

ATV camping is available at the Enterprise Campground, located in the Oneida County Forest about 11 miles south of Rhinelander. The campground is open from May 22 to December 1 and is accessible off of the Enterprise Trail or via Shingle Mill Road. There are 11 sites with grills, fire rings and picnic tables, and the sites are $15/night. Learn more here.

The Enterprise Trail system is one of two trail systems operated by Oneida County’s Forestry and Outdoor Recreation Department. The other trail system—the Little Rice ATV Trail—is located in the western part of Oneida County and consists of 16 miles of woodland trails, 23 miles of connecting ATV road roads and 76 miles of town roads that are open for use.

Oneida County’s ATV trails are open from May through late November/early December, depending on conditions. Contact the county’s Forestry and Outdoor Recreation Department for more information.

In the Rhinelander Area, many hotels, motels, resorts and campgrounds cater to ATVers, and the area’s abundant restaurants and retailers help make Hodag Country an ideal ATVing destination.
